Donald Tusk said Wednesday that Poland will help Moldova to complete reforms started in 2009, when a pro-European alliance came to power in the former Soviet republic.

Tusk pledged that when his country assumes the presidency of the EU in July it will support Moldova in solving difficult issues, such as a 20-year dispute in the breakaway region of Trans-Dniester. The region broke away from Moldova in 1991, fearing it would reunite with neighboring Romania.

Poland's prime minister was in Moldova to attend an Economic forum.
